Les Pavillons: French Pavilions of the Eighteenth Century (Book)

About the Item

by Cyril Connolly and Jerome Zerbe A first edition copy from 1962 of this fascinating book which is beautifully illustrated with photographs taken by Jerome Zerbe and also with an inscription by him. The "Pavillons" were basically the small houses which had been built by courtiers and favourites of Louis XlV and Louis XV whose life was centred around the court of Versailles - but were also in need of a small place of their own where they could relax a little away from the formalities of court life. The pavilions were built by architects of genius and filled with the best furniture and paintings available, all of which have now been dispursed but the pavilions remain.
