Renaissance Splendor Catherine de' Medici's Valois Tapestries 1st Ed

About the Item

Renaissance Splendor: Catherine de' Medici's Valois Tapestries by Elizabeth Cleland. Published by The Cleveland Museum of Art, 2018. 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket. 96 pages, with 72 color illustrations. This book focuses on the particularly extravagant Catherine de' Medici's 16th-century wall hangings. They depict detailed scenes of the Royal court pageantry with life-sized portraits of the members of the French Valois dynasty. They were woven in wool, silk, and precious metal-wrapped threads. New research has illuminated the previous uncertainty surrounding the tapestries commission and their arrival at the Medici court in Florence, as well as the significance of the specific scenes to the politics and intrigues of the time. The book contains a large section showing the restoration of the tapestries which has not been shown before. NPT Books, a division of Trent Antiques, has a large collection of used and out of print books on art, architecture, decoration and antiques with a focus on 1st editions, signed and limited editions.
