Charles SOUDANT French Art Deco Bronze Crucifix, 1930s
About the Item
French Art Deco bronze crucifix by Charles SOUDANT, France, 1930s. Very beautiful stylized Christ surrounded by a halo. At his side, Mary and Mary Magdalene. In bas-relief, the archangels Michael and Gabriel. The whole scene is lit by a halo of holiness. Beautiful! Black marble base. Height: 10.8" (27.4cm), Width : 4.8"(12.1cm), Depth : 2"(5.1cm). At the bottom, engraved signature "Ch. Soudant" (left) and foundry mark "Susse Fes Edts Paris" right) for Susse Freres editeurs Paris. The greatest sculptors (Giacometti, Bourdelle, Ernst, Zadkine, etc.) have entrusted the creation of their works to the Susse Freres foundry, which is today the oldest and most prestigious foundry in Paris. Just some bites on the marble base edges.
