Gemsbok Taxidermy Shoulder Mount, Namibia, Africa
About the Item
This is a great African Gemsbok taxidermy shoulder mount. It is posed with the head in a semi-upright position looking to the animal's right side. This a elegant example of a mount of this creature.
The gemsbok is a heavy-built antelope species that can be found throughout the arid grassland and bushland environments of southwest Africa. The most notable features of the gemsbok are it's rapier-shaped horns (which can grow to several feet in length) and the distinctly exotic black and white "warpaint" facial markings on it's head. The gemsbok is typically fawn-grey in color, with a black stripe outlining it's white underbelly.
The horns are removable making shipping for this easier than usual.

- Mid Century Still Life by Joseph Mellor Hanson, 1956By Joseph Mellor HansonLocated in Hudson, NYDescription "Still Life With An Orange" oil on canvas was painted by James Mellor Hanson (1900-1963) in 1956. It is in excellent as found condition and mounted in a wonderful period frame. This was part of the Herbert F. Hanson was born in Yorkshire, England in 1900. He left England in 1925 for Paris where he studied with Fernand Leger and Andre Andre Lhote and worked with Le Corbusier. By 1938 he had a Studio in NYC until he joined the art faculty at Cornell University, where he taught until his death in 1963. He exhibited widely at MOMA, Whitney, Art Institute of Chicago and the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburg.
