Vintage Petrified Wood Square Red Bookends, a Pair
About the Item
We are very pleased to offer a unique pair of heavy-weight, petrified wood bookends, circa the 1960s. Petrified wood is the name given to wood that has been turned into stone (fossilized) through the process of permineralization. This type of fossilization allows all organic matter to be replaced by minerals; as a result, the minerals give petrified wood its bold coloration. These bookends showcase beautiful red colors due to the iron compounds present during calcification. Each bookend has a polished and an unpolished side; additionally, a felt cover on one side protects the surface they meet. In excellent condition and ready to be used for years to come.
