"Peacock in Garden of Clouds, " Spectacular Art Deco Lucite Screen
About the Item
Quite extraordinary and probably unique, this hand-painted folding screen depicts -- on each side -- a peacock striding among flowers in a trellised garden, with clouds at every level and circles of birds in the sky. Very finely painted in tones of gold, coral and white on peach-colored Lucite, this screen is a superb example of Chinoiserie-influenced Art Deco. The screen comes from an East Coast estate, and was probably painted by a high-end decorating firm in the 1940s.
