Goyard Travel Trunk With Bar

About the Item

This early 20th-century Goyard travel trunk with a fitted bar stands as a testament to the splendor of its era. Adorned with the iconic Goyard chevron pattern meticulously hand-painted in earth tones of brown and white, it pays homage to the brand's heritage. The leather trim and brass hardware further exemplify the brand's commitment to the utmost refinement in craftsmanship. Complete with a fully functional bar equipped with Baccarat and Christofle accessories, this vessel is the pinnacle accessory for high-class travel. Unlocking this trunk reveals its most captivating feature: a fully equipped luxury interior bar. The vibrant yellow leather lining offers a striking contrast to the classic exterior. Thoughtfully designed compartments store a cut crystal mixing glass, two ice buckets stamped Ercuis, a cocktail shaker stamped Christofle, a bar spoon with a muddler, a French cocktail bar tong, one double size 1-ounce and 2-ounce jigger, six cut crystal tumblers marked Baccarat, six cut crystal highballs marked Baccarat and six coupe glasses marked RIEDEL as well as space to accommodate five glass bottles. The bar features wood accents for elegant storage and a pullout wooden shelf to serve as a workspace. The stamp Ercuis is the hallmark of Maison Ercuis, one of the greatest silversmiths since 1867. The stamp Christofle is the hallmark of the luxury silver house Christofle, one of Paris’ oldest silversmiths known for having introduced electrolytic gilding and silver plating in France in 1842. The Baccarat stamp is the hallmark of the French luxury crystal manufacturing Baccarat, producers of fine crystal since 1764. The stamp RIEDEL is the hallmark of RIEDEL, founded in 1756, a company known for revolutionary stemware design. This trunk carries a rich historical narrative, reminiscent of the golden age of travel. Once a common sight in opulent cabins and plush train compartments, this trunk is the perfect storied object for the home. Pierre-François Martin created Maison Martin which would eventually become Goyard in 1792, specializing in box-making, trunk-making and packing, serving as an inspiration to the great trunk-makers of the late 19th century. In 1845, François Goyard was hired as an apprentice at Maison Martin, where the gifted 17-year-old boy received exceptional training. The brand eventually passed to the talented Goyard, who changed the name to Maison Goyard in 1852. He remained at the helm of a house for 32 years, taking the brand to a new level of prestige and quality craftsmanship. He later handed over the reins to his son Edmond in 1885, and all products remain entirely handmade still today. Goyard attracted admiration from royalty and celebrities including the British royal family, the Rockefellers, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Pablo Picasso and Karl Lagerfeld. Stamped "E. Goyard Aine Paris 32 235 rue Saint Honoré" on the brass front lock and "Malles Goyard 235 rue Saint Honoré, Paris Monte Carlo Biarritz Bordeaux" on the side. Trunk circa early 20th century.
