About the Item

Vintage hand-knotted all silk rug with a silk pile on a silk foundation circa the 4th quarter of the 1900s in a dark green and ivory colors. The rug is in a geometric medallion pattern with an ivory/cream color background and border in dark green. The center medallion and the corner spandrels are also in dark green colors. The accent colors throughout the field and border include brown, black and tan.     Vintage Baluch tribal area rug in an all over geometric pattern in dark navy, caramel, and dark red from the early 1900s. The rug has extremely soft and shiny wool, The Baluch tribes live in the southeast corner of Persia and western Afghanistan and they use dark red, rust red, or various shades of brown as their primary colors in their hand woven rugs, saddlebags, and salt bags. This Baluch area rug has an allover design consisting of geometric forms in dark red, navy blue, and camelhair framed by four different borders make for a very subtle tribal rug.     Vintage Turkmen Yomut Soumak rug from Central Asia circa the mid 1900s. The soumak tapestry-woven has a wool foundation, a wool pile and is in an all-over design which results in a beautifully created tribal rug. The main field color in this Yomut Soumak is a rich red with geometric designs in dark blue and cream colors. Soumak (also spelled Soumakh, Sumak, Sumac, or Soumac) is a tapestry technique of weaving strong and decorative textiles used as rugs and domestic bags. Bags used for carrying the bedding are known as Soumak Mafrash. Soumak is a type of flat weave, somewhat resembling but more robust and thicker than kilim, with a smooth front face and a ragged back, whereas kilim is soft on both sides. Soumak lacks the slits characteristic of kilim, as it is usually woven with supplementary weft threads as continuous supports. The technique involves wrapping colored weft threads over and under the warp threads, adding strength and an embroidery-like pattern.
