About the Item

Incredibly Fine 1960's Persian Nafar Rug 2' 6" x 5' Absolutely gorgeous example of the finest weaving you can find in tribal rugs. There are a couple different tribes that refer to themselves as Nafar. There are Nafar tribes that are now apart of the Khasme Tribal Federation and then there are some that are a part of the Qashqais, this piece belongs to the latter. These nomadic weavers are highly skilled artisans that produce some of the highest quality wool rugs in the world. This piece is comprised entirely of Kurk wool that was raised, sheared, spun, dyed and hand woven by a member of the Nafar tribe. Kurk wool, or selected wool, is and picked wool that comes specifically from the throat and stomach of lamb. This type of wool is ultra fine and similar to silk, so it can be knotted over 650 knots per square inch. This piece is close to 500 knots per square inch and took about 8 months to weave, not including the time it took to spin the wool. Due to the high quality materials and craftsmanship of this rug, it feels and shimmers like silk. Shimmering rust tones are complimented by an incredibly deep navy, vibrant colors incorporated in the motifs and the natural cream wool tones break up the rich colors and balance the piece nicely. So many details have gone into this whimsical and intricate piece, which truly make it a joy to look at. A piece like this looks as good on a wall as it will on the floor, it is truthfully a marvelous piece of tribal art. Even though this piece is over 60 years of age, it still looks great. The pile is even, and their are few signs of wear through out the rug. Overall it is in great shape, and will last for ages to come. This piece, like the rest of our collection, was hand-picked by Persian Rug expert and Shiraz native, Jason Dadras. Each piece was acquired through the relationships he forged around the world. Our rugs are ethically sourced and have been legally imported.
