18th Century, Pair of Italian Wood Armchairs
About the Item
18th century, pair of Italian wood armchairs
This fine pair of armchairs was made in Lombardy, Itay, around the middle of the eighteenth century. In carved walnut wood, they have a mixed and wavy plant characteristic of the Lombard baroque. The wood has a particular finish with a patina that, due to its brightness by the ornaments, gives a similar look to that of burnished bronze.
The back, whose profile is decorated with rocaille carvings, is adorned in the top part with a rich perforated carving with naturalistic elements in relief. Very particular is the presence of notches also due to the thickness of the backrest frame. The armrests, connected to the seat, end frontally with a curling element. The band under the seat is also decorated with rocaille carvings and phytomorphic elements, as well as the uprights of the front legs. The four legs are arched and moved with curly foot.
The seats and backrests are lined with velvet from the back.
These two armchairs can be exposed, both in pairs and individually, in a hallway or entrance. They can be placed in a living room next to the sofas or as table heads. They are also suitable for any furnishing context, alongside antique or modern furniture.
