Brazilian Mid Century Armchairs, Martin Eisler & Carlo Hauner, Brazil, 1960s

About the Item

This stunning pair of armchairs, designed by Martin Eisler & Carlo Hauner in Brazil during the 1960s, is a perfect example of mid-century modern style. With their clean lines and minimalist shape, these chairs exude an elegant and sophisticated aesthetic that is timeless. The armchairs are crafted with a combination of iron and leather, which makes for a unique and beautiful design. The organic shape of the structure ensures extra comfort, making them not only stylish but also practical. The legs of the chairs are made of corten-painted steel, adding a touch of industrial flair. Although not yet restored, the chairs can be upholstered in any leather or fabric of your choosing. This allows you to customize the chairs to suit your personal taste and interior design preferences. Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner were influential designers who were instrumental in creating the iconic Brazilian furniture manufacturer, Forma. Born in Europe, Eisler moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1938 before eventually settling in Brazil during the early 1950s. Hauner, who was born in Brescia, Italy and educated in technical drawing at Milan's Brera Academy, arrived in South America in 1949. The two designers met in São Paulo and merged their production companies into what eventually became Forma, one of the most celebrated furniture manufacturers in Brazil. These armchairs are a beautiful tribute to the iconic design of Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner, and they would make a stunning addition to any interior that values both style and comfort.

The "Concha" armchair, designed by Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner, is a hallmark of mid-century Brazilian furniture design. This chair is recognized for its elegant and organic form, indicative of the innovative design spirit of the 1950s and 1960s. Martin Eisler (1913-1977) was an Austrian-born architect and designer who emigrated to Argentina and later worked in Brazil. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996), an Italian-born artist, designer, and entrepreneur, moved to Brazil after World War II. Together, they formed a partnership and played a significant role in the development of modern furniture design in Brazil, creating pieces that were both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Their work is characterized by the use of local materials, and the "Concha" armchair is no exception. It typically features a metal frame with slender, tapered legs that support a seat shell with a distinctive scoop-like shape, reminiscent of a seashell ("concha" means "shell" in Portuguese). The upholstery showcases the richness of Brazilian textiles...
