Early Ocher Canvas Penta Chairs by Jean-Paul Barray & Kim Moltzer for Bofinger
About the Item
Set of early Penta chairs in very good condition.
Designed by Jean-Paul Barray & Kim Moltzer.
Manufactured by Bofinger in the 1960s.
The chairs have a five-corner shaped zinc colored metal wire frame which can be folded for easy storage or transport.
The thick natural canvas of the seat is in excellent condition and has a very nice ocher color.
The canvas of the chairs was professionally replaced. Because the chairs have never been sat in there are still wrinkles in the canvas, which will largely disappear after use.
It is attached to the frame with wooden rods
These Penta chairs are part of the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris collection.
We left the frames in it’s original condition, on request the frames can be professionally repainted.
Jean-Paul Barray & Kim Moltzer are French furniture desingers. They’re well known for their collaboration on the "Penta Chair”.
Jean-Paul Barray was born in 1930 in Saint-Etienne, France and was a designer, painter, sculpture, artist and engineering consultant. He studies at the Beaux-Arts de Lyon and eventually worked for Le Corbusier and Wogenscky. In 1967, Barray collaborated with Kim Moltzer for an armchair, table & lamp all with the theme of “Penta”. In 1968, he worked for Daum to create a puzzle sculpture and a year later starts his own design studio. Jean-Paul Barray passed in 2012.
Kim Moltzer is also a French artist with decades of experience with furniture design and sculpture. Many of his designs follow the flow of plants and include leaves, bamboo and other natural designs. His work ranges from open leaf chairs, animal inspired lamps and tables. He also has many deco inspired designs with modern twists.
