Rare Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel Set of Six 'Badminton' Chairs in Salmon Pink Fabric

About the Item

Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel for Poul Kold Savvaerk, set of six armchairs model 'ND150' Badminton, chromed steel, fabric, lacquered wood, Denmark, design 1958, production 1960s. This set of chairs by Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel was designed in 1958. They were originally designed for the Glostrup County Hospital near Copenhagen where they were placed in the auditorium. It was a requirement that the chair should be stackable and connectable in rows, which are both qualities of the ND150. Therefore, these chairs are suitable for large (public) spaces. The seat and backrest are executed in the finest salmon pink upholstery and the construction is made of tubular steel. Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) was a cabinetmaker and became a furniture designer in 1946, and worked together with her husband Jørgen Ditzel (1921-1961). Nanna Ditzel was a designer who focused on the use, need and function of furniture. Her style is therefore very approachable and useful but at times also bold and experimental. Ditzel made use of innovative techniques and materials. Please note that these items are in good, used condition. The lacquer could use some superficial touch ups. Restoration can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier.
