About the Item
Rare armchair by French designer René Gabriel (1890-1950) from the 1950s. The armchair's frame is made of solid oak, with a beautiful patina, and the backrest and seat are upholstered in white/ecru bouclé fabric. Good overall condition. In 1944, the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urbanism entrusted him with the responsibility of creating emergency furniture. Subsequently, he was appointed President of the Society of Decorative Artists. In tribute to his major role in design, the Salon des Arts Ménagers created the famous René Gabriel Prize.
