Alegria Bench

About the Item

The piece is all made in traditional and artisanal joinery, valuing the fittings and especially the Japanese joinery. All pieces have the same width but the feet are glued and pressed, with interleaved gaps to accommodate the seat slats. Ivory dowels hold the piece so that the wood does not warp with variations in humidity. The piece was inspired by Charlotte Perriand's Tokyo bank. The name of the French designer's bench is a tribute to Japan, the country where she lived for a few years and learned to work with wood and fittings. After the assembly is complete, a milling cutter is used on all corners to round off sharp corners. Handmade, this piece is made to last a lifetime.
