An early George I Caquetoire chair Circa 1718

About the Item

An exceptional example of an early and rare caquetoire chair with carved cresting over an unusually narrow back, inscribed ‘I.M.I., I.H.S., ANNO 1718, G.B.’, with large outward scrolling arms, on block turned supports, joined by peripheral stretchers. The piece has an absolutly wonderful patina and would grace any home. Caquetoire is a French term meaning gossip or chat. These chairs were originally made for women which is why the seat is a large trapezoidal shape, this would accommodate the wide dresses worn by women of this period.

  • George III Burr Walnut Bureau Circa 1775

    An absolutely wonderful example of a Georgian bureau with exceptional coloring and a fall front revealing a red leather writing interior, with pigeon holes, drawers, cupboard and bible ends. All above 2 short over three long drawers and standing on bracket feet. Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use. Old marks, some openings to joints, some chips, losses, replacements to veneers and inlays. Overall solid and stable. Handles are replacements throughout. The interior marked and warn, and with signs of marks and stains to the writing surface. Provenance: The Fulwood Collection The Fulwood Collection comes from a Grade II listed rectory in the North of England. Formerly the childhood home of Sir Douglas Bader. The rectory was acquired by the late owner approximately 15 years ago. The house was formerly split into two separate houses, and with care he lovingly refurbished it back into a single house and refurnished in a blend of the Grand Tour style with Welsh and English provincial tastes.
