Norman Cherner for Plycraft Bentwood chair with Yellow Vinyl cushion 1960s

About the Item

Really cool Mid-Century Modern designer Norman Cherner for Plycraft Bent plywood chair with Yellow Vinyl (Naugahyde) cushion from the 1960s. This would have originally been used as a dining chair in a set, however, most people today enjoy using them as side chairs or occasional chairs which can add a little sculptural interest to any room. The technique of molding plywood was exciting in the 60's and it was a popular medium among the best designers because you could really use it to make interesting sculptural bendy shapes. It is important to note that this chair is structurally sound, but please see below for the condition report: This chair still has the original yellow vinyl upholstery from the 60's, so it does have some marks from its prior life. Please see photos. Most notably, there is a ring on the seat vinyl that I believe is a light stain. We have cleaned the vinyl with vinyl cleaner, but the ring remained. There are also some small pinholes in in the seat vinyl, as well as scratches and scuffs. There are no rips or tears. As you can see, the chair still looks very pretty, and we always try to keep original fabric when possible. I think the wear is minimal enough to warrant keeping it. That said, reupholstery wouldn't be very difficult or expensive on this chair if it was desired. It uses very little fabric. We have also sanded, stained, and sealed the wood to bring it back to its prior glory. We have touched up the black paint detail along the edges. We have also done one veneer repair to a chip at the center back of the seat where we spliced in a piece of wood (see photo with my finger pointing at the repair).
