Huge Sofa Set by Norman Bel Geddes, 1950s, USA
About the Item
Extremely rare huge sofa set by Norman Bel Geddes from the 1950s.
We have the set from the possession of a US soldier stationed in Germany or Roth after the 2nd World War.
In the variant with two two-seat sofas, two single armchairs and the corner part, we have never sighted before.
The set has clear traces of use on the upholstery, but no holes, only faded. A rear wooden leg has apparently been replaced and is not made of the same wood, which is not noticeable as it is in almost the same color.
We deliberately left the set in the original fabric to deter any fans of the original or not to make the right color choice.
On request the set can of course be reused, please ask for the price in advance if you would like us to make it for you.
USA, circa 1949, beech, Sofa height 77 cm, width 160 cm, depth 63 cm, seat height 42 cm, armchairs height 77 cm, width 90 cm, depth 63 cm, seat height 42 cm.

- Mid-Century Australian Modern Teak Sofa & Armchairs by Parker Furniture, 1950sBy Parker FurnitureLocated in Warszawa, MazowieckieThis impressive set of sofa and two armchairs was designed and produced by the Australian company Parker Furniture in 1956. Parker has a legacy of creating some of the finest Mid-Century furniture. These eco-friendly seats are no exception. In an elegant, deep design with perfect proportions, there are simple pillows covered with a characteristic designer material in the color of royal blue, which complements the scultured structure of the frame. The cushions can be raised and the pieces have a spring frame. Elegant, aerodynamic arches are embedded in a low-line solid teak frame that creates an ultra-streamlined 20th century classic. Parker reflects the lightness of form present in the best Mid-Century design and this highly organic living-room set by Parker are a great example of a coveted modernist style. Clean lines and a relaxed profile come together to create a comfortable and stylish pair with a timeless feel. The beauty of these elements can be seen in thoughtful details. The sharp angles visible in the armrests and rear slats add sophistication to this forward-looking design. The set is signed with a label on the wooden frame and an insert on the cushions. Sleek low-back style and sophisticated design are examples of Parker's form from the 1950s. Armchair has 75x69x73cm. The height of seat is 42 cm Parker Furniture began as ‘Dagger and Parker’, a partnership formed between craftsman Alf Dagger, and salesman Jack Parker, after the depression era. - Mid Century Modern Sofa by Stendig, New Luxurious Boucle, Switzerland, 1950sBy Stendig Co.Located in Stamford, CTSofa by Stendig, Switzerland, New Sheepskin Boucle, Mid Century Modern, Labeled. A rare Mid Century Modern sofa by Stendig, made in Switzerland, in a new sheepskin style boucle, thick and rich with fully redone cushions. The box form mid century modern design is supported by a group of heavy chrome circular disk like feet. This sofa has a matching pair of box chairs, fully redone to match, sold separately. Seat height 18 inches. lhSX Stendig Co. played a pivotal role in introducing modern European furniture to the American market, thanks to the business acumen of founder Charles Stendig. Around 1950, the Brooklyn, New York–born Stendig (b. 1924) worked for Raymor, a purveyor of modern china and accessories that is best known for distributing designer Russel Wright’s American Modern line of ceramics. While at Raymor, Stendig focused on the company’s less popular pieces that were made in Italy and Scandinavia, recognizing their potential for the American market. In 1955, he left the company and decided to establish Stendig Co. In 1956, the first Stendig Co. showroom opened in Manhattan. A year later, during a trip to Zurich, Stendig came across a Bauhaus–inspired furniture store featuring pieces by Swiss designers Kurt Thut, Hans Eichenberger and Robert Haussmann, the store’s co-owner. Following a meeting with Haussmann, Stendig became the retailer’s exclusive U.S. distributor. Throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s, Stendig Co. imported and sold furniture...Category
