Mid-Century Modern Lounge Chair Model Tail 4 by Heinz Witthoeft

About the Item

Lounge Chair Model Tail 4 with wood frame, metal pin joint, terracotta leather and leather straps, designed and crafted by the German designer Heinz Witthoeft in 1959 for Witthoeft, Stuttgart. The Lounge Chair Model Tail 4 is an iconic piece of post-war production. As Sophie Lovell told us about Heinz Witthoeft in her interview for Frame magazine in 2012, he describes himself as an "architecturtailer and stationer". He is one of those designers who have devoted their lives to imagining a utopian urban ideal. Known only to a circle of insiders in his home town of Stuttgard, Heinz Witthoeft is a German designer too little known for his remarkable contributions to the field of post-World War II design production, who has devoted his life to exploring the interplay between form, space and materials. All of his furniture has always been created in a total artisanal small-scale production.
