19th Century Yew Rocking Chair by J. Spencer

About the Item

An attractive 19th century chair of yew, this has the appearance of a Windsor chair on a rocking base, with lovely tactile bentwood arms and a pierced splat. It has an incised stamp for the maker, J. Spencer, on the side of the seat. - Decorative incised splat - Crinoline stretcher - Bentwood arms - Lovely patina and deep colour - Turned legs and arm posts - Incised stamp "J.     Wear consistent with age and use. The spindles are solid, the chair is sturdy. There is a repaired split to the upper splat. The rockers have thick leather runners beneath, but one has a central section missing, so that the rocking action is not as smooth as it once would have been.
