19th Century Russian Empire Period Neoclassical Salon Suite

About the Item

A rare and most impressive five-piece Russian neoclassical partial gilt carved wood upholstered salon suite. Born in the 19th century, during the Russian Empire / Imperial Russia period, the suite comprised of four chairs and a settee, recently reupholstered in silk damask. Featuring exquisite quality and craftsmanship, exceptionally executed design, crafted of solid mahogany with elaborately hand carved giltwood decoration, the settee - sofa loveseat having crested rail backrest over bench seat, flanked by ornate figural phoenix firebird openwork arms, rising on six legs. Dimensions: (approx) 44" High, 63" Wide, 21" Deep (settee) 37" High, 19" Wide, 17" Deep (each chair) Provenance: Property of a Southern Gentleman Acquisition: Acquired from highly reputable auction house Heritage Auctions, Dallas, Texas. June 2022 Fine Furniture & Decorative Arts Signature Auction #8085 catalog. Condition: Very good antique condition with beautifully aged patina. Overall strong, sturdy, structurally sound and presents well. Detailed Condition Report: Wear consistent with age and use. Retaining original antique character, including minor losses and age splits, primarily to gilded decorative motifs. Not original upholstery, slightly sagging springs and webbing. Delivered lightly cleaned, the frames waxed, with hand polished patina finish, ready for immediate use.
