About the Item
Fabulous MCM (a.k.a.) mid-century modern gray, light blue, navy blue, taupe, gold & rust chevron tuxedo cube sofa with upholstered legs and frame by Henredon style Milo Baughman. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The fabric is worn including flaws and fraying throughout, particularly along the edges of the base, the upper back corners & middle back edge, and under the cushions on the back deck. It will eventually need reupholstered and has been priced accordingly, even though we could use it this way since the fabric is so fabulous. We call that patina! DISCLAIMER: The close-up photo of the side of the sofa shows the true colors of this fabric more accurately on our monitors. The full photos are a bit darker as the dark navy blue appears black. It is not. The true colors are dark navy blue, lighter sky blue, steel gray, taupe, gold, & rust.
Now THIS is a fine example of Mid-Century Modern excellence!! We have to offer to you a gorgeous tuxedo style sofa with fully upholstered frame, including the legs, and it is wearing a lovely gray, light blue, navy blue, taupe, gold & rust chevron fabric. It’s by Henredon, in the style of Milo Baughman, and the fabulous upholstery is reminiscent of fabrics by Jack Lenor Larsen. We realize that said fabric is in “wonderfully worn” condition; however, it’s so great that we would use it the way it is so we could enjoy it a bit, and most will want to recover it right away. So, we can also imagine it wearing a soft neutral colored fabulous mohair or one of Jack Lenor Larsen’s phenomenal current production fabrics! This cube style sofa features two loose poly filled seat cushions, two loose back cushions, and two loose arm cushions. Plus, the frame is fully upholstered as are its straight blocky legs which gives it its cube or Parson’s style flare. It is going to look amazing in your mid-century modern to modern living room, in the den flanking the fireplace, or in the family room next to a fabulous lounge chair. In addition, it would look marvelous in an industrial setting or contemporary country home.
Henredon was founded in 1945 by four Drexel Heritage executives; T. Henry Wilson, Ralph Edwards, Donnell VanOppen, and Sterling Collet. The name Henredon is a combination of their names. These four men were determined to build furniture of custom quality and their original offering was only three chests. It has since blossomed into hundreds of designs still in keeping with their goal. Through the years they have engaged well known designers to create their unique and fine furniture. They currently are part of the company Furniture Brands, Inc. but still embracing their long-standing tradition of fine furniture craftsmanship and reputation for timeless elegance.

Henredon
Founded in 1945, Henredon is one of the more recently minted of the top-tier North Carolina furniture makers. Among collectors, Henredon is admired both for its sleek, sexy sofas, dining tables and other furniture of the 1970s and for its partnerships with noted designers, a program that began in the 1950s with decorating icon Dorothy Draper and architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
From the start, Henredon has been best known for its bedroom furniture and vintage case pieces, such as cabinets, dressers, armoires and credenzas. The brand was established in Morganton by former Drexel Furniture Company executives, and its name is a portmanteau term, derived from the first names of three of the company’s founders — T. Henry Wilson, Ralph Edwards and Don VanNoppen. (Sterling Collett, a fourth figure mentioned in Henredon Furniture’s history, chaired the company and served as treasurer).
Though not on the cutting edge stylistically, Henredon’s production — as well as its output under the Heritage-Henredon label — has always kept pace with contemporary tastes.
In 1953, High Point manufacturer Heritage began a collaboration with Dorothy Draper, famed for bravura interior design commissions such as the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco and the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia. Her taste for bold, modernized historical style is reflected in the incised baroque medallions of her España line and the geometric motif of her Viennese furnishings group. In 1955, Henredon launched the Taliesin Ensemble by Wright, named after the architect’s houses in Wisconsin and Arizona. Taliesin dressers and coffee tables are recognizable by their angular shapes and a dentil motif on their edges. In those years, Henredon had a cross-licensing agreement with Heritage, and Draper and Wright's furniture is usually labeled Heritage-Henredon.
In later decades, Henredon produced collections for such designers as Ralph Lauren and Laura Ashley. The company took a stylish turn in the 1970s, fabricating new and unusual forms like mirrored room dividers and console tables with rounded corners and burl-wood veneers. Such pieces are priced in the $3,000 to $4,000 range, as are chests of drawers by Draper. Wright furniture tends toward the higher end, priced around $7,000. Henredon was an aesthetically diverse maker, but its furniture commands attention and makes a statement in any eclectic decor.

It wears its original hopsacking fabric which is comprised of lovely turquoise and green threads that create a gorgeous dark turquoise hue. It’s a phenomenal color with back button details!! It has four loose seat cushions with soft foam, but they could benefit from a bit more padding which would be easily achieved as they have zippers.
