Late 18th century Swedish oak painted bureau bookcase
About the Item
Stunning baroque Swedish painted bureau bookcase circa 1780.
Comprising of 2 parts. Top section with a beautiful deep scrolling cornice, below which the double doors open to 3 shelves. Bottom section with moulded bureau front, fall opens to reveal a fitted interior painted in slate black. Central tabernacle flanked either side by a pullout drawer and a bank of 3 drawers.
Below the fall are 4 shaped front drawers with later hardware. Standing on block feet with further carving.
Later paint, some paint losses to interior from use, minor restorations to woodwork.
