Early 19th Century French Oak Buffet à Deux Corps Cabinet
About the Item
Large French provincial buffet à deux corps from the early 19th century.
Two-part oak corpus standing on 4 feet and coffered at the sides with rounded pilasters and a total of 8 doors in frame construction hung on iron fittings on the outside. Each double door is flanked by 2 single doors. Base cabinet with multi-curved plinth apron and slightly protruding profiled top plate. On top is the display cabinet with a fluted, profiled cornice.
Inside there are four full-length shelves in the upper part and a centrally separated shelf in the lower part.
Dimensions:
103 cm (lower section) or 260 cm (total) high / 40.55 inch (lower section) or 102.36 inch (total) high,
237 cm wide / 93.3 inch wide,
42 cm (upper section) or 58 cm (lower section) deep / 16.53 inch (upper section) or 22.83 inch (lower section) deep.
Shelf depth:
Upper section: 35 cm / 13.77 inch.
Lower section: 47.5 cm / 18.7 inch.
Very good functional condition, with age-related signs of use and traces of repairs over the years. Both the locks and the hinges are no longer original and new patinated brass fittings appropriate to the style have been fitted.
The entire surface has been stripped of the old wax, revealing the beautiful matt texture of the raw oak wood.
The furniture can be transported in 2 parts (upper part, lower part). In addition, the doors can be unhinged and the shelves can be removed.
