French Late 18th C. Curvy Bombé Front Chest w/Fabulous Paw Feet w/"Fur" Ankles
About the Item
A French bombé style painted wood commode from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique chest from France features a shapely top with canted front corners and center/front scallop, atop a case that houses four full-sized chests flanked within exaggerated "belly" side posts which give this piece its bombé appearance. The drawers are each fitted with a pair of lovely swag-style pull handles with an escutcheon keyhole set between them at center. The skirt is carved in gentle scallops about the front and sides. The canted side posts terminate into carved paw feet, with fabulous "fur" carvings about the ankles. Primary colors of this piece are shades of blue with white with wood showing through from beneath, with a wonderful patina throughout. Please note that there are cracks about the top and sides, which can be viewed more in detail in the additional images. This late 18th century French chest of drawers will offer a charming sculptural quality and presence within your room, while providing storage within, and space for decorative objects to be display atop.
