George III Mahogany Tray Top Commode
About the Item
George III mahogany tray top commode, the gallery has openings on the sides for carrying; the sliding tambour front reveals open interior. The front legs were made in two pieces (see photo), originally in this lower section, there would have been a porcelain potty inside, this has been converted to a drawer in the 20th century.. The drawer front features beautiful swirl grain crotch mahogany. The surface height is 29.5''. These commodes have become very popular as bedside stands.
