Hepplewhite Style Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Chest of Drawers

About the Item

A good quality American Hepplewhite style inlaid mahogany chest of drawers of serpentine form, the well-figured top with a boxwood inlaid edge above 4 graduated drawers each with line inlay and contrasting keyhole escutcheon all resting on French feet. The drawers are framed with quarter columns on each side. French polished. Circa 1880. The back has a brass plaque marked property of Mrs. Downey.

An extremely good quality and elegant georgian mahogany seprentine chest, which boasts a good, bold serpentine shape. It is also constructed from good quality mahogany timbers and has real presence to it. Quite unusually for an item from this period it retains original brass swan neck handles as well as its original shaped bracket feet, both of which are really great features. Overall the condition is also good, one would imagine a result of many years of being cherished and loved and looked after.
