Gaetano Pesce for Zero Disegno 'Nobody's Perfect' Multicolored Sideboard

About the Item

Gaetano Pesce for Zerodisegno, sideboard from the 'Nobody's Perfect' series, polyurethane resin, Italy, 2007 Gaetano Pesce has been pioneering a design approach that embraces the unpredictable, creating space for unique pieces within a larger series of productions. In 2001, he partnered with Zerodisegno to create a collection of resin furniture. The collection, aptly named "Nobody's Perfect," embodies Pesce's acceptance that flawless design is a myth. The manufacturing process is a blend of craft and spontaneity. The craftsman mixes resin with vivid colors, pours the blend into molds, and smooths the surface with a spatula to create pieces with variable thickness and shapes. This process ensures that no two pieces are alike. At times, he infuses the resin with seasonal aromas, adding another layer of sensory uniqueness. The hand-crafted nature of each piece reflects the individual touch of the maker, as the shapes and patterns depend on their gestures during creation. This results in fluid, organic forms, some transparent and others opaque, each with an anthropomorphic character. The collection includes a variety of furniture - storage units, seating furniture, and tables - all featuring these unique qualities. For Pesce, furniture does not need to adhere to strict standards or rigid structures. Instead, he champions a more flexible and transparent approach, even if it challenges the traditional expectations of users. The outcome is a collection that celebrates imperfection, reflecting a deeper philosophy that true beauty lies in the unexpected and unrepeatable. The design world mourns the recent loss of the visionary Gaetano Pesce, who passed away on April 3, 2024. His contributions to the field were groundbreaking, and his influence continues to resonate across generations. In tribute to his legacy, we present a sideboard from his acclaimed "Nobody's Perfect" series. This storage unit is a striking example of Pesce's unconventional approach to design, characterized by its irregular, robust shape and a vibrant color palette. The use of vivid yellows, reds, blues, and browns dominates the aesthetic, with some areas rendered in translucent resin and others in opaque tones. The surface exhibits a mesmerizing dappled effect due to the varying consistencies of the resin. In addition, the design is characterized by sinuous lines and rounded contours, juxtaposed with a geometric grid of vertical and horizontal elements. The front of the sideboard features two doors, which open via pins. This sideboard captures the essence of Pesce's innovative spirit, offering a bold, tactile experience that celebrates the unexpected in design. The sideboard is dated "8.11.2007" and signed "g e." alongside the number "057" which is inscribed on the piece.
