"Antelmo" Contemporary Side Table I, Handmade Mexican Design
About the Item
This set of coffee tables are part of a collection worked hand-by-hand with Mexican artisan Antelmo.
Antelmo was born and raised in a small town in central Mexico named Santa María Rayón, State of Mexico. Antelmo has dedicated his life to become a master in turned wood. Taught since little, and even though this is a typical Craft from Oaxaca, he has managed to become one of the leader artisans in the creation of traditional chocolate whisks.
In this collaboration we bring to life the combination of traditional aesthetics and high-end materials, design and passion.
Each of the pieces is carefully handmade in Mexico, with details made with the unique technique of a “Molinillo”, the traditional Mexican chocolate whisk, made especially to foam hot chocolate. Each of them is turned out of one solid piece of wood, and then carefully hand-carved.

AD HOC
Adhoc is established in Mexico City in march 2014, as a furniture and interior design studio. Founded by Juan José Nemer (left), industrial designer and Mauricio Álvarez (right), architect, both graduated from Universidad Iberoamericana. Interested on developing a fresh and innovative proposal, we create a dialogue between the use of technology and traditional techniques, to create contemporary, aesthetic and functional objects. We define ourselves as an object, space and furniture workshop, which aims to reach perfection in the details through design. Believing in material’s natural beauty, we dedicate to design spaces and create pieces, which reflect Mexico’s artisan legacy through our own approach, highlighting the nature of the material itself and manual processes in every product. Through transformation of daily materials into useful pieces, Adhoc rebuilds the meaning of everyday objects. This workshop recovers Mexico's craftsmanship's legacy with contemporary design processes.

- Mexican Onyx Stone and Brass UÑA Side Coffee Table Design by Nomade AtelierBy Nomade AtelierLocated in Mexico City, CDMXThe UÑA table is fable, mythology and design blended together. The striking contrast between the stone’s solid weight and the apparent frailty of its legs make for a most intriguing game of tension and levity. The name derived from the Greek word onyx, which means that: nail. The myth tells that Venus gave his son Cupid bow and golden arrows; the arrows were of two kinds: those that had a golden tip for love, while the others were lead, to keep oblivion and ingratitude in the hearts. One day, Cupid cut the divine nails of Venus with an arrow while she slept. He left the clippings scattered on the sand and the Gods of Destiny turned them into stone, so that no part of the divine body would ever die. The onyx and its mythology inspired us to create a dialectic on full and empty planes: a pair of mineral cuts in balance and constant play between the unique beauty of the material and the invisibility or apparent fragility of its support, whose thin lines suggest lightness and seriousness at intervals, just like the characters that inspire his name. This limestone rock...Category
