Low French Modernist Table in Oak and Perforated Steel, circa 1955

About the Item

A low table comprising an oak-veneered wood top with bullnose edge supported by canted, wedge-shaped legs made from perforated steel sheet and stained wood, designed and manufactured by Marcel Yvroud for Cité Universitaire, Antony. There's scant information available on Yvroud beyond the fact that his firm, along with Jean Prouvé's and others, created furnishings for the University's residences. He also designed cabinets, the model known as Escande, which featured identical legs. This table has great proportions and its economy of means and form is thoroughly modernist. All surfaces show highly desirable character and aging throughout. From an important collection of modern design. Circa 1955.
