About the Item

This is a rare and elegant modern desk, designed by Bertha Schaefer for Singer and Sons, circa 1950s. Beautiful graining to the Italian walnut, especially to the top. Schaefer was one of the leading female designers of the era, and designed this line for Singer and Sons with her contemporaries Gio Ponti, Carlo de Carli, and Franco Albini. This is an American midcentury walnut writing desk with an angular top and two left-hand drawers, supported by five tapered dowel legs connected by stretchers. From 1950 through 1961 Schaefer designed furniture for M. Singer and Sons Furniture Company.
