Giuseppe Scapinelli (Attr.), rare wooden table. Brazil, 1950
Among the great masters of Brazilian modern design, Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in 1891 in Modena, Italy, but like many of his Italian fellows, he crossed the ocean and immigrated to America. Person with broad cultural horizons, he was a painter,, ceramist and sculptor, and he began his career as a furniture designer in the early 1950s.
His markedly organic style is recognizable: soft shapes and curvy, winding lines, his designs bore an unexpected, rather futuristic quality and a strong identity.
The table proposed here shows all the characteristic elements of its style, a lively organic style, and can be simply placed both in a private home, as a coffee table or bedside table, or in an office.
