Edwardian Mahogany Dressing Table by Maple & Co

Sn5395 Superb quality and very stylish, Edwardian, mahogany dressing table by Maple & Co, London, having swing mirror in shaped supports with original turned finials, satinwood fretwork panels and small crossbanded jewellery drawers with mirrors below, figured mahogany top with crossbanded edge and 2 oak lined frieze drawers, all fitted with original brass handles, raise on slender legs terminating in castors. This elegant antique dressing is ready to place at home. c1910 H64.5" -mirror H30" W45" D22.5" H14cm - mirror H76cm W115cm D57cm Maple & Co was established by John Maple and continued by his son John Blundell. The company was most prolific in the late Victorian and Edwardian era, specialising in fine quality furniture, designed and produced in their own workshops. By the 1880s they were the largest furniture store in the world, exported their fine furniture to every continent. Maples manufactured their luxury furniture entirely in-house, at a huge modern complex in Tottenham Court Road. A timber importer and furniture exporter, they landed prestigious contracts furnishing fine houses, hotels, embassies etc. Among them Tsar Nicholas’s Winter Palace and the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna. Never compromising on quality, Maples produced a huge catalogue of fine furniture, covering every avenue of interior design.

    English Mahogany Beau Brummell Gentleman dressing desk. Aristocratic Pedigree. Outstanding example of a rare mechanical piece of furniture of museum quality. The luxurious polished Mahogany desk is raised on four square tapered legs on brass casters. Beautiful proportions give it a regal appearance. This elaborate and ingenious construction is master crafted by the cabinet maker, Maple Company of London. A spring-loaded mechanism lifts the top to reveal a triptych beveled mirror and a spectacular display of a multitude of hallmarked Vermeil silver and cut crystal vanity suites by Charles and Richard Comyns. Every piece is fully hallmarked and engraved with the crown of a count and monogrammed. The desk has it’s original finish, pencil inlay and original brass hardware, like hinges and catches.
