About the Item
Capture the raw power and beauty of the ocean with this stunning postmodern oil painting by Illinois-born artist August Holland. Born in 1928, Holland began at a very early age mixing colors and painting with his uncle, an artist himself. Not long after finishing school at the Academy of Art in Chicago he was called to service in the Korean War. He continued his fine art on the side while working in an advertising agency. By the 80's he had been shown in several galleries across the country. In 1986 August became acquainted with Charles Vickery, renowned maritime artist. Vickery became his mentor and in 1988 when the advertising agency closed Holland put his full efforts into his art. With masterful brushstrokes, Holland brings the crashing waves to life, evoking a sense of movement and drama that will mesmerize any viewer. Perfect for adding a touch of coastal elegance to any space, this timeless artwork is sure to become a focal point in your collection.
