This painting of two children playing by a lake is by Johannesburg Boesen who was born in Copenhagen in 1847. Following the techniques of the Golden Age of Light painters Boesen’s painting makes use of a special light in all areas of the painting. The children are seen as care-free to lose themselves in the moment. There is the warmth of an autumn afternoon to bring a serenity to the painting and the gold of the trees highlights this warmth and draws the observer to the children playing and the reflections in the water.
