Pair of Framed Watercolors Depicting Gothic Churches by Théodore Henri Mansson

About the Item

A pair of French framed watercolors from the mid 19th century by Théodore Henri Mansson depicting Gothic churches in medieval settings. Created in France by talented and tireless traveler watercolorist Théodore-Henri Mansson (1811 – 1850) during the first half of the 19th century, each of this pair of watercolors features a Gothic church, a subject particularly dear to this Neo-Gothic and Troubadour enthusiast. Showcasing medieval town scenes, one of them depicting the Cathédrale of Rouen in the background, the watercolors are perfectly composed, using diagonals to lead the eye throughout the joyous scenery. Signed Mansson lower right, the watercolors are set inside gold and black frames with matting. With their small proportions and beautiful subjects, this pair of French Neo-Gothic style watercolors circa 1840 will make for a lovely decorative addition to any home, whether hung above a side table, commode or buffet.
