About the Item
Northern California artist Robert Gilberg (1911-1970) originally a Bay Area artist, Gilberg moved to Nevada City in 1946, in 1935 to 1940 he attended WPA Art Classes in Oakland and San Francisco and studied with Joseph Sheridan, later attends Placer College in Auburn under the G.I. Bill in 1947 to 48. From 1941 to the end of his life in 1970 had many group and one man shows and in 1971 the Artists Contemporary Gallery in Sacramento held the Robert Gilberg Memorial Exhibition. This is a mixed media abstract collage on plywood of paint and metal, painted in an off white.

Robert Gilberg was born in 1911 in Oakland, California. He studied at the Oakland Art Center in the 1930s. Well-known for his paintings, Gilberg exhibited widely with success. He passed away in 1970.
