Additional Details: Air France poster created by Ray Bret Koch in 1938 to promote tourism from Europe to the Far East. A Dewoitine D.338 plane flies over a map on which different cities in Europe are connected to Asia. For example, to reach destinations like Saigon or Hanoi from London, you had to make around 20 stopovers: London, Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Naples, Corfu, Athens, Tripoli, Beirut, Damascus, Baghdad, Bushire, Jask, Karachi, Jodhpur , Allahabad, Calcutta, Akyab, Rangoon, Bangkok, Vientiane, Saigon, Hanoi. A Cornac (or Mahout) sits on an elephant to symbolize the route to the Far East. The shrimp (or Seahorse or Winged Horse), emblem of Air France from 1933 to 1976, is visible at the bottom of the poster. The composition of the Company's posters at this time revolves around four elements: The sky, a plane, the nine letters of Air-France and "the shrimp". Raymond Bret-Koch is a French artist born in 1902 and died in 1996. Architect, decorator, poster designer and illustrator, he learned architecture with Mallet-Stevens, decoration with André Groult and advertising art with Tolmer. After his military service, he specialized in decoration and advertising.
