About the artist
Maurice Estève (1904 Culan – 2001 Culan) was a largely self-taught French painter.
Born in the small town Culan in the Val de Loire, he moved to Paris with his parents in 1913, where he began his education as an artist. He attended the free studio of the Académie Colarossi in 1924 and developed a style inspired by the French Cubist painters Georges Braque and Fernand Léger.
He held his first solo exibition in 1930 at the Galery Yvangot in Paris. In the 1940’s Estève slowly evolved is style into complete abstraction with tight-knit interlocking shapes in rich, bold colors.
Maurice Estève took part in the Venice Biennale in 1954. His works have established themselves in many well-known museums and collections around the world, like the MoMa, San Fransico Museum of Modern Art, Kimbell Art Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Mourlot
Mourlot Studios was a commercial print shop founded in 1852 by the Mourlot family and located in Paris, France. It was also known as Imprimerie Mourlot, Mourlot Freres and Atelier Mourlot. Founded by Francois Mourlot, it started off producing wallpaper. Later, his son Jules Mourlot would expand the business to handle the production of chocolate labels for companies such as Chocolat Poulain, as well as ledgers, maps and stationery. Starting in the 1920s, Jules' son, Fernand Mourlot, converted one of the locations into a studio dedicated to printing fine art lithography.
Maurice Estève
Maurice Estève was born May 2, 1904 in Culan in the Cher where he spent his childhood with his grandparents. He joined them in 1913 in Paris, where he discovered the Louvre Museum (he is particularly impressed by the Battle of San Romano by Paolo Ucello). Returning to Culan for the summer, he stayed there during the war years, began painting as early as 1915. He lived in Paris again from 1918. Apprentice to a typographer then to a modern furniture design studio, he followed Drawing evening class, discovers in 1919 the painting of Cézanne. Back in Paris he attended Montparnasse the free workshop of the Academy Colarossi. Marked until then by the painting of the Primitives and the work of Cézanne, it passed temporarily in 1927 the influence of surrealism, including Giorgio de Chirico. He presents his first solo exhibition in 1930 before becoming interested in film and directing. On the advice of Braque who participates, he is asked in 1936 to exhibit in Stockholm with Matisse, Picasso, Juan Gris and Fernand Léger. He participated the following year in the realization of the wall decorations of Robert and Sonia Delaunay for the pavilions of the Aviation and Railways at the Universal Exhibition of Paris. Estève, who works regularly during the summer in Culan, makes lithographs, regularly practices watercolor but also charcoal, monotype, collage. In 1970, he received the Grand Prix National des Arts. From 1981 are organized several retrospectives of his work. The City of Bourges decided to present all the works (more than a hundred) which the painter donated to him in 1985 in the Hotel des Echevins, restored with the assistance of the Historic Monuments and the Direction of the Museums of France to become the "Estève Museum", inaugurated in 1987. Estève moved permanently to Culan in 1995. He died on June 27, 2001.

- Pop Art Robert Indiana Yield Brother 1971 Screenprint Edition 230 Red BlueBy Robert IndianaLocated in EL Waalre, NLPop Art Robert Indiana Yield Brother 1971 Screenprint Edition 230 Red Blue “Yield Brother”, from the “Decade” suite. Screenprint on heavy wove-paper, 1971. An impactful work where Indiana made use of military signage, stenciled letters and a palette of strong colours creating tension between it’s call for peace and the visual language of military posters. Signed and dated and numbered (46/200) in pencil by the artist. The print also bears the artist’s copyright ink stamp. Part of an edition of 230 total: 30 artist’s proof and a regular edition of 200. The edition was printed by Domberger, Stuttgart (Germany) and published by Multiples Inc. New York City. Professionally framed in a brushed aluminium frame. Museum-glass was used to minimize reflection. Ready to hang. About the artist Robert Indiana (pseudonym of Robert Clark) ( New Castle, USA 1928 – Vinalhaven, USA 2018) was an American painter, sculptor and poet. He was a leading representative of pop art and created the internationally famous LOVE symbol in 1964. A self-described American painter of signs”, Robert Indiana’s works explore visual culture, national identity and personal history through symbols and colours inspired by signage and graphic design. Indiana had his first solo exhibition in 1962 at Eleanor Ward’s Stable Gallery, which at that time also represented Cy Twombly and Robert Rauschenberg. In 1962 he participated with the work The Black American Dream #2 in the exhibition New Realists, organized in the gallery of Sidney Janis. It was here that pop art first announced itself as a new movement in visual art. In the following years, Indiana would participate in all the important group exhibitions of this movement. Although the Pop Art movement made Indiana famous, he was never fully comfortable with the consumerist nature of Pop Art as his work often was very politically outspoken. In 1978 Robert Indiana left New York City for good, moving to the remote island of Vinalhaven in Maine, close to where his hero, the painter Marsden Hartley had lived. Since then he rarely gave interviews or engaged in the art world, yet he continued to align himself with political causes, designing the official poster for Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign in 2008. During his lifetime Indiana had countless exhibitions all over the world, and his work is included in the collections of numerous international museums: among others Metropolitan Museum New York, Museum of Modern Art New York, Tate Modern London, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. Signed Signed and numbered (46/200) by the artist in pencil. Condition Overall good condition. Full margins. Slight undulation on right side of the print. Slight moisture damage in upper left margin.
