Sir William Russell Flint Original Etching, 1931, "the Wheelwrights"

About the Item

Sir Russell Flint (1880-1969) original pencil signed etching, 1931. Titled: "The Wheelwrights." Flint loved to print on antique paper. This etching is printed on Portal Paper created pre 1800. Image size: 9 1/4" H x 12 3/8" W. Unframed, archivally matted in a 16" H x 20" W two ply. In excellent condition. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1880, Flint was a student at the Royal Institution School of Art in Edinburgh. He served a six year apprenticeship at a large printing works then moved to London to become a medical illustrator at the age of 20. In 1903 he joined the Illustrated London News and became a freelance artist by 1907. He was elected Associate of the Royal Academy in 1924, full member in 1933 and in 1936 became President of the Royal Society of painters in watercolor. His talent in watercolor, drawing and etching and his skill in depicting the female form created a hallmark style for him.
