Vintage Mayumi Oda Silkscreen ‘Benten’ c1981
About the Item
Dubbed the Matisse of Japan. Mayumi Oda is a Japanese-born American artist born in 1941 and raised in post-war Japan. Oda graduated in 1966 from Tokyo University of Fine Arts, then studied at Pratt Graphic Centre in NYC. She is currently living in Hawaii, in her 90s, and no longer working. Her work is highly collectible and getting harder to find since she only did small editions.
This piece, titled "Benten" is a small edition hand-pulled silkscreen of 50 and executed on a thick Japanese paper. This piece is from Oda's "Rainbow Female Bodhisattva" series c1981. Newly framed under art-plexi in a beautiful bleached maple frame.
