Old Korean patchwork cloth/Abstract painting-like tapestry/20th century

About the Item

This is an old Korean patchwork cloth made around the 20th century. The name is ``pojagi'' or ``chogappo.'' It is a cloth used to cover, wrap, or wrap things to protect them, and is similar to what is called a Japanese furoshiki. It is a cloth that has been used by women in various situations in their lives. The history of ``Chogappo'' goes back to around 600 years, and it seems to have been most popular in the 18th century. Some were beautifully embroidered by women, and some had small pieces of colorful cloth added to them. Pojagi was also used at weddings, and it was said that wrapping something in a ``chogappo'' would bring happiness. They are made by keeping scraps of kimono cut fabric from everyday life and sewing them together. This was made by people of the common class in their humble lives. In addition, there are some ``chogappo'' that still exist, rarely used and kept in a chest of drawers. This may have been connected to the folk belief that being careful and devoted will bring good fortune, or it may have been because people believed that sewing small pieces of cloth would lead to a long life. This "Chogappo" has not been used much and is in very good condition. It is believed to have been created around the 20th century. Only one corner cord remains. You can iron it all over to make it look straighter and neater. It is a rare item in Japan as there are not many remaining. This is a highly recommended item. Weight: 250g Also, since a similar item was published in an art book, I have included a photo of it as a reference.
