Leitão & Irmão Retro 1940s Diamond Enamel Violet Floral Bouquet Brooch Gold

About the Item

Retro diamond and polychrome enamel violet floral bouquet brooch in 19.2kt yellow gold and platinum, by Portuguese crown jeweler Leitão & Irmão, 1940s, accompanied by the maker’s case. This brooch is modelled as a bouquet of eight violets, each five-lobed flower decorated with purple enamel petals and a single-cut diamond bezel-set to the centre, five of the flowers are blooming open while three of them are closed and leaning downwards in a naturalistic fashion, the yellow gold stems accented with dark green enamel and tied together with a flowing diamond-set ribbon in platinum. This brooch is secured to reverse with a hinged pin and roller clasp fitting. Diamonds: single-cut and rose-cut; approximately 0.50 carats in total. Maker's mark for Leitão & Irmão (reg. 1887); Lisbon hallmark “horse head” (used 1938-1984) for 19.2kt (800/1000) gold and 500 platinum; Lisbon assay mark "rooster head" (used 1938-1984) for jewelry. Dimensions: 6.0 x 5.0 cm. Gross weight: 31.29g. Minor losses to the enamel on the petals, which in fact increase the naturalistic feel of the jewel. This item is in good condition, with marks and scratches consistent with general age and wear. Antique, period and vintage pieces, both signed and unsigned, are being offered as worn.
