Dramatic black and clear bead bib necklace, attributed to Langani, Germany, 1960s

About the Item

This striking bib necklace is made from larger plastic faceted teardrop beads, and haematite coloured bugle beads and clear round beads, all put together in an intricate woven design, looking dramatic and eye catching. Plastic beads were used as to have used all glass beads would have made the weight prohibitive. As it is this necklace is light and very articulated. It is most likely by and attributed to Langani. Anni Lang was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and, after studying under Josef Hoffmann, she started up her own jewellery company in 1952. From that date until 1965, she created many distinctive and unusual pieces, at once sculptural and eye catching. In the 1970s she began a long association with Louis Feraud, the Paris couturier, creating striking metallic designs very different from her signature bead fantasies.

Wear consistent with age and use. The above 'length' measurement is taken from the inside of the necklace. The 'height' measurement is taken from the neckline at the front down to the bottom of the bib. The measurement from the back closure down to the very front is 12 inches.
