Victorian Necklace Amethyst and Amber 59" Sautoir

About the Item

This Victorian-era (circa 1880) silver, butterscotch amber, and amethyst sautoir is approximately 59" in length, allowing you to wear it as a long, dramatic statement necklace or wrapped once, twice, or several times around the neck for a more layered look. Each of the almond-shaped silver links has a circle in the center. Amber beads bookended by a pair of hand-carved natural amethyst beads are stationed along the length of the necklace. An amethyst pendant hangs from the silver fastener at the end. The amber beads measure approximately 9mm x 6mm and the amethyst beads are nearly 3mm in diameter. I can find no maker's marks anywhere on the necklace so it's very difficult to give you an origin. It could be French, English, American, or Eastern European. The workmanship is excellent and the silver has a lovely pewter-like patina, earned over time. The nearly-complimentary color palate is wonderful. Purple and butterscotch are perfect together, especially united by muted pewter. This necklace is one-hundred-and-forty-years old. Yet it's completely perfect for our world, today. You'll stand-out on your next Zoom call with this unique, beautiful, and endlessly versatile necklace.
