Magnificent Victorian Era 14K Gold Enameled Cupid Bow Pendant with Pearl

About the Item

Holding this magnificent pendant in hand, we realized that the art of the miniature painter, enameller, gem-setter and jewelry designer have come together to provide us a feast for the eyes. This very sentimental Victorian era cupid enameled pendant finds its own way to bring the color and emotions into a piece of jewelry. The pendant is made in 14k yellow gold (hallmarked), with a circle of natural seed pearls on the frame and a larger white pearl in the bow. The central enamel panel features two winged cupids. One with a red scarf holding an arrow and running toward the other one, who is waiting next to an urn decorated with pink and blue roses. A white dove standing between the two cupids is considered as a symbol of love and peace. The cupid on the left side of the scene wears a sky-blue scarf, with a rose garland in his hand. The sky is painted in pastel violetish blue, which adds extra harmony and romance into the story. The idea of combining cupid and roses as a strong symbol of love dates back centuries and still continues today. Although emblematic in various modern incarnations, it is never more sentimental than in antique jewelry. This rare piece of enameled cupid pendant is surely a wonderful piece to add into your antique jewelry collection. The chain in the photo is not included in the listing. Measurements and condition In overall very good antique condition. Slight trace of use and oxidation on the gold. No crack or chip on the enamel. One tiny missing on the upper left border which is not visible when the pendant is worn. French shell hallmark for 14k gold on the circle frame of the pendant (right side).
