This wonderful example of Victorian jewellery was created in 1876. It can be worn as a pendant or a brooch.

The Details...
Constructed from 9ct gold, this pendant features an oval porcelain plaque hand-painted with a miniature portrait. The reverse of the plaque is signed by the artist. Their name is difficult to decipher due to ageing. However, their initials appear to be L and M. It is dated 1876. The piece features a bail, so that it can be worn as a pendant. It also features a fastening mechanism, so that it may be worn as a brooch. The pin is attached to the brooch with a tube hinge and the brooch fastens with a traditional safety catch. The piece measures 5.5cm x 4.5cm.

Circa the 1870’s, this diamond encrusted arrow has been converted from a pin into a pendant that can be worn in a variety of ways. The arrow contains 32 natural Rose Cut diamonds that vary in shape and size, from round to oblong. Each diamond catches the light in a unique way, and the intricate details of the hand carved antique stones are mesmerizing. The quills of the feather are delineated, with space between each quill that reveals its careful workmanship. The age of this piece and its rustic, handcrafted quality gives it a beautiful naïveté.
The arrow is a strong symbol of direction and sacrifice. It brings to mind St. Sebastian and stories of miracles and martyrdom. It can also be worn to represent momentum, movement, and protection.
The pendant has a silver front and 14k gold back. We added half-bails to both ends of the pendant so that the arrow can be worn pointing up or down, or could be used as a chain extender.
The pendant contains approximately .5 of a carat of diamonds. The 32 natural Rose Cut diamonds range from 2 mm to 1.25 mm. The arrow measures 2 3/16” x 9/16”. It weighs 4.2 grams. It is unmarked but acid tests as silver and 14k gold.

This Victorian-era Etruscan Revival locket, circa 1870’s-1880’s, opens to reveal the daguerreotype of a young man. Across from it is a blank frame where an additional photo can still be added. The daguerreotype is hand-colored—the man has rosy cheeks and there is a slight blue tinge to the background. The front of the locket features ornate twisted-wire motifs and granulation, typical to the Etruscan Revival period, and there are seed pearls on the front emblem. The original bail can clip onto a larger chain, or a smaller chain can be slid through, so the locket can be styled in multiple ways.
Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800’s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wirework and granulation, colored gemstones and glass.
