Island Games (Lucky Shot)
By Stephen Scott Young
Located in New York, NY
Image dimensions: 29 ¼ x 21 ½ inches Framed dimensions: 45 x 37 inches Signed and dated at lower left: SSYoung / 99' Island Games (Lucky Shot) depicts a pair of young Bahamian boys engaged in a game of marbles, one of the artist's signature themes. Scholar William Gerdts writes: In these works, Scott not only depicts young individuals engaging in a popular activity but shows their intensity and competitiveness while conveying their camaraderie. The pictures are not so much about "winners" and "losers" as about the boys' concentration on the game and the interest shown by onlookers....The sense of community evoked in the series suggests that playing marbles...

Blue Thumbergia
By Christina Haglid
Located in Chicago, IL
Christina Haglid Artist's Statement I used to write a lot of poetry, and it has shaped the narrative process in my artwork. Now painting has replaced writing. Objects in the painting are considered like words placed on a page. I use flowers, manipulated objects, and architecture together in compositions to symbolize the subtle conversations and interactions between them. They are placed in imaginary landscapes that are inspired by actual places and travels. All the paintings are watercolor and gouache on stonehendge paper, and they are made up almost entirely of individual brushstrokes. Flowers II, 2020, Mary Finlayson, Gouache on Paper- Floral/Still Life/Black
By Mary Finlayson
Located in 326 N Coast Hwy. | Laguna Beach, CA
Mary Finlayson Flowers II Gouache on Paper 22.5 x 17 inches, framed Mary Finlayson’s interest in painting interior spaces portrays how environments reveal identity. Navigating the themes of intimacy, memory, and self, Finlayson’s gouache paintings reflect the vulnerable narratives unveiled through ownership of possessions. Flattening the perspective of each scene, her still lifes provide a voyeuristic glimpse in to each curated space. Considering the personal attachments and importance of objects, her compositions skew and distort to capture the feeling of a space rather than an accurate depiction. Rendered with vivid color and an emphasis on texture, Finlayson creates spaces that are partly real and partly imagined. Mary Finlayson lives and works in San Francisco as an artist, teacher, and art therapist. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen's University, a Graduate Degree in Art Therapy...

Yes, some Rogers silver is worth something. Compared to original selling prices, many Rogers pieces have increased in value, but generally, complete sets of silverware tend to sell for more than individual pieces. The age, style, rarity and condition will impact the selling price of Rogers silver. It’s also very important to note that there are many silver firms with “Rogers” in their name (F.B. Rogers Silver Co., Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co., C. Rogers & Brothers, and more). A certified appraiser or knowledgeable antiques dealer can give you a more specific estimate of a particular piece's value as well as some history on the maker. On 1stDibs, shop a selection of antique silver.

What the IS mark means on Rogers silverware is International Silver. The company purchased Rogers in 1898, and its initials appeared on the silversmith's pieces afterward. The IS mark does not provide any indication of what type of silver a particular piece features. Shop a selection of Rogers silver wares on 1stDibs.

How old WM Rogers silverware is varies. William Rodgers produced silverware under his own name off and on from the 1840s to 1873. To find out the age of a particular silverware set, seek the help of a licensed appraiser. Find a collection of antique and vintage silverware on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 21, 2024
Yes, Rogers silverware is real silver, but how much silver the maker's pieces contain varies. The vast majority of Rogers silverware features silver plating, so it is predominantly a base metal with only a thin layer of silver over top. To determine the content of a particular piece, look for hallmarks on its surface. Then, use trusted online resources or work with an antiques specialist to determine the meaning of the marks. Collectors should note that there are in fact many silver firms with “Rogers” in their name (F.B. Rogers Silver Co., Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co., C. Rogers & Brothers, and more). Shop a collection of antique silverware on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Partly. All 1847 Rogers Bros silverware is silverplate, which consists of a very thin layer of silver over a metal base made from copper, nickel or brass. “1847 Rogers Bros” is a trademark used starting in 1862, when Meriden Britannia Company purchased the hollowware division of Rogers Brothers Mfg. Co. and joined up with independent metalsmiths to form International Silver Co. Shop a range of antique and vintage Rogers Bros 1847 from top boutique sellers on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 26, 2024
Yes, Wm Rogers & Son is real silver. However, most pieces aren't solid silver. The silversmith worked predominantly in silver plate, which is a base metal finished with a thin layer of genuine silver. Shop a selection of Wm Rogers & Sons silver wares from some of the world's top sellers on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertMay 14, 2024
Yes, F.B. Rogers silver is real silver. However, most pieces produced by the American silversmith are not solid silver. The company is best known for manufacturing silverplate, which sees a thin layer of genuine silver applied to objects made of base metals. Find antique F.B.
