Vincenzo Re
18th Century By Vincenzo Re The Pool of Bethesda Oil on Canvas

18th century

About the Item

Expertise by Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri. Vincenzo Re (Parma, 1695 – Napoli?, 1762) born in Parma, was an Italian scenic designer who during his career worked as initially an assistant designer and lately as head designer at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. The work is an example of a typical capriccio. It represents an architectural fantasy which depicts a colonnade located on the shore of a lagoon. This imaginative site is where Vincenzo Re set the episode of the “Pool of Bethesda”; Jesus healing a paralysed man at a pool water in Jerusalem.
