Open Crimped Curve Top, Elongated Center, Tripod Legs, Black Ceramic TOTEM
About the Item
Hand built ceramic sculpture in mottled black glaze. This piece, one in a series of Modern TOTEMS has a crimped curve open top, an elongated center form, tripod legs and a luscious black glaze. Each part is hand-formed then attached together before the first firing. In this case, a dark brown stoneware is used with a mottled black glaze. In places, the glaze shows the hand markings beneath, sometimes it has a deep black, sometimes a silver sheen. This variation in the surface adds depth and distinction to the piece.
Signed underneath with artist's signature Chop.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
